Offsetting my Virgin
June 21st 2007 00:57
Flight......
I love it, a few months back Virgin Blue ran a huge marketing campaign " VIRGIN BLUE IS GOING GREEN" they splattered ads all over major Newspaper publications and got reams of Free Editorial space for their Heroic effort. ..the First Airline in Australia to go Green, all hail Virgin.
Lo and behold I have to fly to Melbourne for a few days so I thought stuff my Qantas FF card and all the comforts, free food and booze, I'll fly Virgin because they are Green, Ill make an effort to be the good environmental citizen we all aspire to be. and guess what, yup the Devil is in the DETAIL......,
I log onto Virgin, book my flights, what do I know, I get the Option to PAY to offset my flights, now I don't object to this, we all need to make changes and give a little back to ensure we are all as Carbon Neutral as possible, what I do object to is them making a big deal about going green when it is the passenger that pays. Ok it is a start that I have the option but it is hardly going green if you encourage your passengers to pay for the offsetting Is it? I appreciate the effort but don't go running around splattering the Pages of papers saying you are Green when all you are doing is giving your passengers the option and kicking in a measley 500k per anum, it really is just a small step to what an Airline of all compainies needs to do. Mst passengers that would click and pay extra would offset through other channels anyhow.........
And they should know that we know that they can actually make money out of selling Carbon offsets too.....I feel like the sucker victim of a clever well timed hoax of an advertising campaign....yet again.........anyhow rant over
You won't hear a peep out of me until I return,,,,carrying my tree to plant upon my arrival.
