a trillion dollar wake-up call
September 23rd 2008 02:11
The WSJ has reported tackling Climate Change will have an impact on companies accross 6 sectors with a total potential impact of $6 trillion. That is what I call a big number.
The research conducted by Mc Kinsey highlights there will be both cost and opportunities, with big gains to be made by corporates who get in front of this and potentially huge losses to corporates who don't address Climate Change as a business issue.
Here is my favourite quote
It is only a matter of time before the polluters start paying for their damage to the environment instead of what is happening now, US PAYING THE PRICE. I for one am looking forward to the day we are all good environmental citizens.

"Climate change will cause a revolution in business and our findings should act as a trillion dollar wake up call to the investment and business communities. Companies and investors that prepare now and develop new strategies will reap the commercial rewards of the move to a low carbon economy. The financial risks of inaction are just too vast to ignore. We can see a trillion dollars of company value change, with leading, well-positioned companies gaining and badly positioned or slow companies losing out."

I still cant get my head around those conglomerations who dont see the need to address climate control, really are they that far gone?
Scary to think it is exactly as portrayed in movies like I Robot and others, isn;t it? Worse to think that it is these big boys that are most likely to escape the fallout by being able to afford their ticket to Mia.
*shiver* at that thought.
