Climate Red - News and Views on Climate Change Issues.

it is time for rationality

October 8th 2008 23:00
OK so i've left this space to market newbie for a while now but it is time to draw a line in the sand. Today we saw some very decisive co-ordinated global Government intervention in these markets, these measures will help free up capital, it is time to look through market moves and see the opportunities.

Mkt Newbie often talks about fear and greed, these are arguably the two major driving forces of markets to extremes. The Credit Crisis was without a doubt caused by greed and now recent market moves are being exaggerated and perpetuated by fear. The same greedy people who couldn't buy enough at the top and leveraged themselves to the hilt are now panic selling.

This much I know, fear and greed CREATE OPPORTUNITY. Warren Buffet so quickly becomes a cliche these days and I heard a pearler of his this week, ill have to paraphrase as I am writing this on the go. When people get greedy its time to be fearful, when people are afraid it is time to get greedy. Because I despise fear and greed i don't like this comment BUT because I love markets and I love opportunities I am quoting it today.

Warren Buffet is a RATIONAL investor who invests (note i do not use the word trade) on fundamentals, he sees opportunity in these markets and so should every rational thinker out there.

SO why am I writing this post on a Climate Change blog? Well the reason is simple, there is a huge opportunity associated with investing in a transition to a low carbon economy. You get a double whammy effect of watching your money work for the planet, whilst at the same time receiving a return on your money. I can't think of a better way to invest my retirement money, and if we all do it, it will make a HUGE difference. Huge amounts of capital are needed to bring Renewable Energy to grid price parity and to make energy efficiency measures affordable for the average household. I am not even talking about investing in new technologies here, I am talking about rolling out existing technologies to critical mass, this brings down the price of being clean and cleans up our planet.

So you might think this is a small investment universe and highly risky, but you will be pleased to know there are many stocks globally that have Utility income streams and risk profiles that produce Renewable Energy. There are also lots of outstanding companies that will change the face of energy efficiency. These stocks have their fundamentals underpinned by government policy and consumer demand trends, doesn't get much better than that. Did you know that embedded in the bail out bill was tax credits for renewable energy? and did you know yesterday europe drafted new, very powerful climate change regulation? and did you know the US yesterday released draft legislation for a cap and trade system? did you know 69 countries in the world have mandated renewable energy targets? Did you know China, the largest polluter, is also the fastest adopter of Green Power? These things all underpin the pricing of the stocks I will tell you about later today, they are all hapening with or without bans refusing to lend money to each other.

HERE IS A LINK TO MY POST ON MY TOP 30 or so picks, its time to dust off the rational investor boots and give the planet some capital!!!!! and no this won't link to one of those spam emails where you have to pay money to see the names, these are stocks I have personally sought out world wide that have relatively low debt or a strong ability to raise capital, have superior growth potential and most importantly are contributing in some way to transitioning the world to a low carbon economy. (a dsiclaimer may be necessary here, to say I am not giving advice merely sharing my opinion, adsense earnings may not cover the expense of being sued)

Cheers
