The Prisoners Dilemma

Does the prisoners dilemma apply to Climate Change?
Well that is the question being asked in this EXCELLENT article from the Economist CLICK HERE FOR FULL TRANSCRIPT
Basically the Prisoners Dilema exists when two prisoners are hypothetically locked in separate cells and cannot communicate with each other. They are both offered deals to rat out the other, if they both stay quiet they each get a 1 year sentence, if they both rat then they both get 5 years, if one rat's and the other stays quiet, one walks the other does 10 years. You get the idea. Click here to learn more from Wiki on the Prisoners Dilemma
This article is basically highlighting that we all benefit from a better planet but some countries will just sit around and watch everyone else clean up their mess and quite happily reap the rewards. I am more optimistic than the author but it is worth a read just to get a perspective on how vital these Current UN Negotiations are and just what is at stake.
George W's famous conference is on as we speak, will be interesting to see how many wheels get reinvented at that one.
Here's hoping for all our sakes the US, China and India sort out their differences and come to the party in November, there are many many ways they can reach comprimise, heres hoping they do.
Happy Friday Orblers
P.S. Here are some more links to some other great articles i have found, it is pretty much information overload in Climate Change World with all the conferences going on, for the most part there is a lot of hot air being created for not much good so far.......
As the Waters Rise, good balanced look at the Current Global situation at the UN conference
YoThe WWF is about to release a pretty daming report that reeks of Politics to me, worth a read and I may do a post on the Report when I get my hands on a copy
