the compact

I am not sure if I could actually go all the way with this BUT I LOVE THE CONCEPT, Lilla, this post is for you.
A colleague of mine just told me about an interesting agreement called "the compact" it is effectively all about reducing your consumption in order to reduce your individual impact on the Earth.
I have written a more complete post click here on the origins and discussed the concepts involved. In short my colleague tries to NEVER buy NEW stuff unless it is basic essentials, like food, toiletries etc. I am a bit funny about using other people's stuff and I admire him for the effort. I love the concept and am going to make an extreme effort. The basic premise of the compact from their blog site is
You will all know that I think the best way to do our bit towards clmate change is actually consume less and that is the essence of the compact, I love it, and am totally going to make more of an effort, I think if every time I go to consume something I think twice then that will help as a start. There are compacts all over the world, maybe we could have an Orble compact!!!! Where all us Orblers make an effort to think before we buy.
Go to their blog site, there are amazing tips, even if we can't go the whole hog like these people, making an effort counts, as earth hour taught us EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS
Happy Friday

THE COMPACT
1) TO GO BEYOND RECYCLING IN TRYING TO COUNTERACT THE NEGATIVE GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIOECONOMIC IMPACTS OF U.S. CONSUMER CULTURE, TO RESIST GLOBAL CORPORATISM, AND TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES, FARMS, ETC; 2) TO REDUCE CLUTTER AND WASTE IN OUR HOMES (AS IN TRASH COMPACT-ER); 3) TO SIMPLIFY OUR LIVES (AS IN CALM-PACT)
