Climate Red - News and Views on Climate Change Issues.

The BBQ Stopper

July 11th 2008 07:17
My quest is by no means over, but here are some links to some reasons why if we all turned Veg we could just about wipe out Climate Change. The first link is where I got the title for this post.

I know becoming a Vegetarian is a big ask, but quite frankly the more I read about the damage to the environment, the less and less appealing a juicy steak is. I personally think awareness is the starting point. Some of us will NEVER be able to live without meat but there are times I know I simply eat it for the sake of it, sometimes when I am not even hungry, now is the time to stop and think before we waste, that goes not only for food.

I am thinking I am going to start by having meat free days, the data is so dramatic for reducing emsissions if people stop eating meat altogether that one day a week for all of us could really add up. I haven't fact checked the first link but it is food for thought that if we stopped eating meat entirely in Australia we would reduce emissions enough to not even need to worry about an ETS!!!!!!! One day a week, its gotta do something.

Life without meat, maybe not, a day without meat every week, EASY.

a good reason to turn vegetarian

Happy Friday

Ah Ha, I knew it, you're over the red, and I knew instantly what you meant, ,must be those brain games I do. Well sure, it is, it distinctly says red but it's really green, yup, as Raven would say, they've got a brain game just like that.

I've been away, have much catching up to do. I will, promise.

Do you understand this Vimu thing, maybe you can write a brain game to help me get that...... it seems like a good concept but it has me confused

I am not a vegearian. I also am not obsessed by eating meat . I can go without it and I don't seem to notice. Funny that. Australians were brought up on beef, lamb, etc. They are delicacies that will ever be in the hospitality industry. I can't ever see the whole population - only some - giving up the meat.

Errr, Louie, I think I'll need to do a lot of brain games before that one clicks, but I'm takin' it easy, time will tell. It has me wondering 'tho, and I guess that's the first step, but I'm surely pleased there is no exam on it, and I like exams, but I can see the big F coming up, and just in case everyone thinks I have descended to such low expressions, F stands for Fail. Oh, my reputation, just down the drain.

Hi Louie,

I've been doing alot of reading in our agricultural practices and realise that eating too much meat is just not good for you, so we've started to have more vegetarian dinners and when we eat meat, we have smaller portions.

And I have to say I do feel better for it. I don't think I could ever give up meat.

I watched a doco a few weeks ago talking about genetically modified food. And one guy had genetically modified salmon. Apparently salmon only grows in the warmer months. So he took a gene from a fish that grew in the colder months and introduced to the salmon so the salmon grew all year round. This salmon was 4 times the size of a non genetically modified salmon. His argument was, this is good for the planet because we are depleting our salmon having one salmon that is 4 times the size will help with the problem of depleting salmon. But it doesn't address the problem that the human race just wants too much and it wants it now. There just needs to be an attitudinal shift.

Love & stuff
Mrs M

The radio station that I always listen to is airing those short health tips. One such tip says the veggies do not have all the nutrients that the human body needs. Thus, the required food supplements, like zinc, for the vegetarians.

But I don't think there's going to be any problem if a person does not eat meat for a day. Might even reduce his bad cholesterol.

Yes Janet, I agree I can't see everyone going Veg either, I guess like all of this if we all cut down it has the potential to make a big difference.

Even Climate Red has gone green, very fashionable you know. Or so Louie says, but hang on you are Louie, turn those lights off please, save electricity but would someone please tell me how that can be when we introduce the hybrid electric car?

Hiya Crystal, yes the Red had a facelift, might add a bit back just to spice it up a bit....... well the Hybrid electric car uses a lot less fuel EVEN if its powered by coal BUT in a perfect world it would be powered by renewable electricity
