Climate Red - News and Views on Climate Change Issues.

get interested

March 20th 2008 05:58
Ross Garnaut has released his interim outline for the all important Australian Emissions Trading Scheme. The key takeaway from the presentation was: GET INTERESTED.

He stated that this trading scheme will affect all Australians in some way so we should all get involved.

Here is the link to the press relese

and a link to the executive summary

only a few crazies like me will spend Easter reading the whole kit and caboodle and i'll report on any devil in the detail if I find it.

In short the key elements to the trading system he has suggested will be no surprise to anyone who follows this issue closely. The thing you will HEAR THE MOST NOISE ON will be the fact he has stated 100% of the permits will be Auctioned, power companies are going to squeel like pigs about tihs and try to tell us all that it will make our power more expensive.

Well be aware people that although this may seem true on face vale, as Mr Garnaut points out free permits do not mean your power won't go up, it just means the power companies will control the pricing instead of the Government. The Government should in theory provide for the low income earners and will finance things like Feed in tariffs and subsidise Solar power on houses; if you use less than your house produces you get PAID people. So don't react too much to the proper gander or propaganda even. More on this later, got some eggs to eat.

anyhow, HAPPY EASTER Ill write more on this when i have had tme to digest it all.

Hi Louie,

"...power companies are going to squeel like pigs..."

You crack me up gurl!

Right you are though about the good news being burined in all this as well as ususal devil lurking in the detail ...Still overall, we know it has to move this way...eventually we'll be able to install and run our homes for ourselves and only rely on them for top ups hopefully.

Another good one Louie,

Cheers

Lilla ...
