Putting their money where their Mouth is

This months Wired Mag has a great article spelling out just how Carbon Funds are going to help the Environment -Carbon Funds invest in the Carbon Projects that provide the Carbon Credits that all the offset providers are selling to you when you want to reduce your Carbon Footprint...simple yeah!!!!!!
Basically these guys just went to Borneo and bought a tract of land and raised a COOL $200mill to pay for it. They will then register the Credits and sell them to one of the providers.We as the consumer will buy credits from an Offset Provider or simply the middleman. Obviously in reality it is a little more complcated than that but it is an excellent article to get a feel for just what we can do for the environment once the "smart money" starts investing in these markets.
Obviously if the offset provider you purchase credits from is Dodgy then there is a problem but if you buy legitimate credits this is the kind of thing your money will be doing.
These guys aren't exactly being altruistic heroes; they are making a decent amount of money out of transactions like this, which isn't really a bad thing. As long as the end game is that the Trees are staying in the ground then we can't really complain if they make money; and the sad truth is if they couldn't make money then nothing would be happening. In this case nothing means the Rainforest would be getting sold off to logging companies.
