fruit or fruitless?

You could be forgiven for not even knowing the Hawaii climate talks have been and gone, there were certiainly no front page items or tears like we had n Bali. So was anything actually achieved?
I think the opening speech by the Governor of Hawai was the most sensible thing I have heard on climate change for a while
I think she is dead right, climate change talks have to go beyond, ego, politics and personal agenda's, we will ALL suffer TOGETHER if nothing changes, it is a shame the issue gets so tangled in politics in my view.
In summary the talks were pretty fruitless, except that the US agred to work towards the Bali roadmap - prevously they have provided a pretty significant headwind - outside of that I couldn't see any other significant progress. This in itself is no smalll feat, the US being more accommodating could be worth it's weight in Gold and all the tonnes of carbon emitted from staging the talks in the first place, maybe this is fruit enough.
cheers

Linda Lingle, at the opening of the White House-sponsored international climate change meeting:
"It is only when we are able to get beyond our politics and ego, and rely on each other's strengths that we can begin to make significant progress. And energy security and climate change demand nothing less of us.'

A fruitless world, such nightmares, poor love.
