Green Stocks: New Series: Part 2 More Green Aussie Stocks

July 17th 2007 07:09
Here are some more stocks that may qualify for our Green Portfolio.....ARW, NFL, SBI, TPI, COZ

Again I am just doing the background on names to put on the Radar screen and have yet to work out price targets and entry levels, as i said this is a long term portfolio so we have to do our homework before we put out money where our mouth is

I spotted in the Airport on sunday that the AFR Magazine I think it is called Smart Investor ran a story mentioning about 5 stocks to put into your Green portfolio, I didn't get to read it properly but it's probably worth getting your hands on if you are interested in this topic...great minds think alike hey...they only had one or two that my posts haven't covered if you look at previous post which I'll link to.

TPI is pretty touch and go to me, I honestly only put it in here because it is currently featured in an AFR Magazine article on the Topic therefore due to perception will get re-rated when cash flows into the "Green" Sector as i think it will over the next 12 -18 months as more Environmenatl funds are set-up Globally. (more on funds flow in another post it is a can of worms)

See list below

ARW - http://www.arfuels.com.au/

NFL - http://www.naturalfuel.com/
Produces
Biodiesal
Glycerine
Natural Fuel Limited was incorporated in October 2003 and became an unlisted public company in June 2004. The company was formed to build a global sustainable and renewable energy business in emerging yet strong growth markets.

Natural Fuel intends to manufacture biodiesel and glycerine from renewable sources through a number of subsidiaries, either wholly-owned or joint venture type vehicles, in select countries. Over the last two years the company has undertaken extensive, independently verified, market research and due diligence into the viability of biodiesel plants in Australia, the United States and Singapore. During this time, the company has formed a number of strategic relationships with key biodiesel industry participants.
Natural Fuel has developed a robust scaleable business model and assembled a highly experienced management team together with internationally renown contract and equity partners. Natural Fuel’s first biodiesel plant in Darwin, Australia is currently in the commisioning stage. Further plants to be commissioned in coming years.
Sustainability
As biofuels are produced from renewable energy sources (vegetable oils in the case of biodiesel), it is critical to ensure that feedstocks are produced on a sustainable basis.
Natural Fuel’s sustainability policy requires feedstocks to be sourced in compliance with eight key principles:
1. Commitment to transparency
2. Compliance with applicable laws and regulations
3. Commitment to long–term economic and financial viability
4. Application of best practices by growers and millers
5. Environmental responsibility and conservation of natural resources and biodiversity
6. Responsible consideration of employees and of individuals and communities affected by growers and the mills
7. Responsible development of new plantings and
8. Commitment to continuous improvement in key areas of activity
In particular, any palm oil sourced as feedstock for Natural Fuel must be certified by the Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil (of which Natural Fuel is a member) as meeting its stringent requirements.

TPI - CLick Here

TPI is a Company that is borderline Green i.e. in the view of this Author some of its activities apply and some do not therefore it won’t be passing my “Green Screen” I don’t imagine HOWEVER this won’t stop the market putting it in this category so there could be some good money to be made with a relatively clear conscience when the market is re-rating stocks in this category which will happen frequently over time in my view as previously discussed..
Transpacific Industries Group Ltd (Transpacific) is a public company (ASX : TPI) that provides integrated industrial cleaning and total waste management to customers across Australia and New Zealand, with particular focus on the liquid, solid and hazardous waste management markets. Transpacific is also a key player in the heavy-duty commercial vehicles industry in Australia and New Zealand and has niche operations in parts of Asia.
The companies’ wide network of operations includes collection operations, transfer stations, waste-to-energy sites, composting facilities, and recycling plants. These assets enable Transpacific to offer a full range of environmental services to industrial, municipal, and commercial customers.
Transpacific operates an integrated business across five primary divisions:
• Liquid and Hazardous Waste
• Solid Waste
• Energy
• Industrial Solutions
• Commercial Vehicles
Their environmental policy is sound “Our Environmental Policy states our objectives in ensuring a healthy environment. TPI is committed to seeking continuous improvement in our environmental management practices and we continually monitor our processes and our approach to the environment in order to realise our objectives”

However some of their processes do involve Chemicals etc. AGAIN I AM NOT A FAN

COZ – http://www.co2australia.com.au

CO2 Group Limited specialises in the commercialisation of business opportunities within the environmental sciences sector. CO2 Group's first major initiative has been the formation of a leading Socially Responsible Investment Company - CO2 Australia.

CO2 Group's CO2 AUSTRALIA™ Carbon Sequestration Program focuses upon opportunities for above average shareholder returns by developing a series of products based upon biomass carbon sinks for the provision of greenhouse gas emission reductions; this activity can be generalised as the "carbon credits" business.
Commercial Offsets -Investment in a CO2 AUSTRALIA™ Carbon Sequestration Program
• Removes Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere helping to reduce Global Warming.
• Investing in a CO2 AUSTRALIA™ Carbon Sequestration Program provides a hedge against future carbon price increases.
• CO2 AUSTRALIA™ Carbon Sequestration Program produces fully auditable certificates under both the NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme and the Federal Governments Greenhouse Friendly™ Program.
• CO2 AUSTRALIA™ Carbon Sequestration Program is a cost effective way to build a Carbon Bank for the future.
• CO2 Australia provides a turn-key solution to your voluntary action, your mandatory obligation or your investment.
• Becoming Carbon Neutral demonstrates good corporate citizenship.
Contact a member of our Commercial Offset team for further information.

CO2 AUSTRALIA™ Carbon Sequestration Program Benefits Beyond Removing Carbon from the Atmosphere:
• Improves regional employment. A 5,000 hectare program would lead to in excess of 180 full time equivalent employee positions being generated over the life of the project.
• Contributes to catchment targets for soil health, water quality and quantity, riverline ecosystem health, terrestrial biodiversity as well as to sustainability of local and regional economies.
• Improves farming profitability by maintaining and enhancing the productive capacity of the farm's soil, vegetation and water resources.
• Improves the capacity of the farm to accommodate variations in climate and market conditions.
• Improves the employment opportunities of farm families.
• Prevents salinity. It has been estimated that 10,000 hectares planted will help to protect 50,000 hectares of farmland from potential salinity issues as well as enhancing the productivity of the farmland.

Why do we plant Mallee Eucalypts?
• They are extremely long lived.
• They withstand extreme climatic conditions.
• They have a natural fire regime and are resistant to fire due to their capacity to resprout from a large underground stem (called a lignotuber).
• They have biological characteristics which allow the trees to achieve relatively high biomass productivity rates in relatively low rainfall environments.
• They are resistant to major damage by insect or plant pathogens due to the high oil concentration within the trees.
