Climate Red - News and Views on Climate Change Issues.

china on our page

November 1st 2008 00:55
One of the main obstacles to reaching a new Global agreement on Climate Change is China and India's willingness to make concessions also, both countries have expressed an unwillingness to do this as they want the growth of their economies to take priority. Fair enough.

China has released a White Paper on Climate Change and you will be encouraged to know they are on the right page. They recognise that they are pretty vulnerable to its effects are hence the need to curb emissions. They also see the opportunity that exsts being a world leader in the Energy Efficiency and Adaptation areas.

Here is a snippet and a link to a brief article. (Reading the whole report could be a commitment for the whole weekend)
The Paper outlined policies and actions to decelerate climate change, including adjusting the economic structure to promote the optimizing and upgrading of the industrial structure; making great efforts to save energy and raise energy efficiency; developing renewable energy and optimizing the energy mix; developing a recycling economy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; reducing greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture and the countryside; promoting forestation and strengthening the capacity of carbon sinks, and intensifying R& efforts to deal with climate change scientifically.

As I said this is a very positive step in the right direction towards reaching global agreement in Copenhagen next year.

I leave all this for my good friend Louie to sort out, it's all much too hard for me.

Well done my little green Queen.

How are the bees going?

Let's hope they do something positive. I have lived in China, and the damage they have done through carbon emissions is frightening. In Shijiazhuang, I used to watch the coal dust fall out of my clothes after a simple walk to the shops. That's how bad the air pollution is.

Yes KC, they have done some serious damage, between you and me, I don't care why thet get better, but I suspect these Green flushes are coming from the point of view that even they can see their country heaving in pollution and crap and they know if they don't fix it it will cost them more in the long run.... yes I am way too cynical.

I think I have heard it called enlightened self interest
