British Turbine Company to manufacture turbine blades in New Orleans, La.
A British wind turbine company will begin manufacturing turbine blades and components in the Michoud Assembly Facility in eastern New Orleans. Michoud used to manufacture the external fuel tank for the space shuttle. Blade Dynamics Ltd., based in the Isle of Wight off the southern coast of England, designs and manufactures advanced blades designed to increase the efficiency and performance of very high power wind turbines.
This is supposed to help create 600 new jobs by 2015 at an average salary of $48,000, plus benefits, and make a capitol investment of $13 million dollars. This will bring a new attitude to the people of the Michoud New Orleans area that have been affected by the NASA cuts. The long term effects of the economy are exactly what Louisiana needed after the oil spill in the gulf.
Governor Bobby Jindal said that this “marks a significant step for Louisiana into renewable energy and green manufacturing that will help us continue to grow our economy” I am glad to see that my own state is taking a big step in this direction. I hope that this kind of green manufacturing in my own local area will begin to raise awareness about going green among our Louisiana residence. I am glad to see renewable energy sources becoming a part of our lives. I am also glad to be able to talk about green construction in my construction classes that I teach in high school and technical college.
HAPPY CONSERVING!!!!!!
