So we weren't just imagining it!!!!
February 12th 2008 04:29
I was starting to think it was just my imagination, that the Green issue was increasigly getting exploited by advertising campaigns jumping on the green band wagon. Well it appears not, the ACCC have released guidelines to stop businesses falsely claiming green credentials in order to cash in on our genuine desire to clean up our acts - the ACCC has labelled this "greenwashing" - love it, more jargon. The fine is a cool $1.1mill, which buys a lot of Carbon credits for the offenders. CLICK HERE for the press release, a few people have been named and shamed already.

We still have to be careful and as we know the Devil is always in the detail.......like I saw an ad the other day for a car company introducng its green fleet. Yet I could swear I had read that the said company had been rated one of the worst overall, not just in Australia but IN THE WORLD.......t none of the actual cars in the photo were bad, so they are free to create the perception that their entire brand is green when this is VERY far from the truth.
cheers

Advertisers are always pretty quick to jump on a 'trend' aren't they, whether they back up their claims or not... It would be good if the enviro uprise actually did make companies go greener for the sake of profits (why else do they do anything) but if they are all talk... that's why I want to know who's been doing it, so I can steer clear. If they are unethical one way they are bound to be unethical in another.

And yes advertisers are all about trends, something else will come along soon and they will move on - I hope -

Music to my ears..
each...and...every...syllable.
It amazes me that after 12 years of incompetence the ACCC has suddenly found the power to do what it was set up to do. Fight lies and corruption and protect the Australian consumer.
Together with today's special indigienous announcement, my load couldn't be lighter...
Thanks for the info and links...
