Climate Red - September 2008

Final Garnaut Review is out

September 30th 2008 05:06
Here is a link CLCK HERE FOR LINK TO MEDIA RELEASE and a link to the FULL MONTY

Overall this report has been very well flagged and there are no surprises.

It is encouraging he supports domestic offsets as well as the import of offsets from other credible nations.

It is a very credible and balanced document.

I'll post more on my views of the contents once I have digested it.

cheers

Hypocrites Unite!!!!

September 29th 2008 04:06
This is the title of a story by George Monbiot CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE STORY defending the Green movement of being Hypocrites. He rightly points out that most human beings are in fact hypocrites and in the Green movement because of its diversity this can also be said.

I think it is ok to talk the talk even if you don't perfectly walk the walk, as long as we all have a genuine go at being good environmental citizens, hell, even the US President doesn't have to be perfect anymore........

Anyhow his article isn't exactly light hearted, it is a serious defense but I would rather be a light hearted "greenie" trying to do my bit, albeit slightly imperfectly than a sanctimonious consumer of all things chemical any day of the week. At least we have good intentions.

The question I guess I have, is does not being you perfect make you a hypocrite?

Cheers

Louie

a trillion dollar wake-up call

September 23rd 2008 02:11
The WSJ has reported tackling Climate Change will have an impact on companies accross 6 sectors with a total potential impact of $6 trillion. That is what I call a big number.

The research conducted by Mc Kinsey highlights there will be both cost and opportunities, with big gains to be made by corporates who get in front of this and potentially huge losses to corporates who don't address Climate Change as a business issue.

Here is my favourite quote
"Climate change will cause a revolution in business and our findings should act as a trillion dollar wake up call to the investment and business communities. Companies and investors that prepare now and develop new strategies will reap the commercial rewards of the move to a low carbon economy. The financial risks of inaction are just too vast to ignore. We can see a trillion dollars of company value change, with leading, well-positioned companies gaining and badly positioned or slow companies losing out."

It is only a matter of time before the polluters start paying for their damage to the environment instead of what is happening now, US PAYING THE PRICE. I for one am looking forward to the day we are all good environmental citizens.

is this good or bad?

September 19th 2008 02:11
Unions want to strike over climate-change issues. Is this support for our cause or do we think they just want to strike over everything? I am curious to know what other Orblers think because I AM WAY TOO CYNICAL to tackle this one!!!!!!

Has she reacted to our hard hitting journalistic piece (sic) on why the Greenies don't like her?

It could appear to be the case, perhaps McCain has had a word in her ear and stated his Climate Policy is non-negotiable , read below from the miami herald, the internet is abuzz with talk she is back pedaling. This could be one for the good guys. here. here

help protect the coral sea

September 10th 2008 07:18
The Australian Conservation Foundation is forming a unique alliance and launching a bid to turn the Coral Sea into the world's largest, no take marine parks.

This would help to protect numerous species of fish and marine life already facing many threats. Here are some details and a special link to show you how to campaign Peter Garrett to make this happen. Take a few minutes to do it, we know Peter Garrett is one of the few politicians who actually cares so we might get a good outcome on this one if we show him there are enough of us who want to fight for it

the future

September 3rd 2008 03:06
The job of the future is green, and no its not picking apples.

Here is a link to an excellent SMH article from a week or so ago that I missed, but entirely agree with. It states the job of the future is the Corporate Sustainability Officer, this is a role that pretty much did not exist two years ago. The person in this role would manage the firms Carbon Liabilities, Sustainability policies and the likes. It sounds like a pretty cool job
